Welcome to the Central Coast Gaming Newsletter, a newsletter that covers events, meetups, and in-person gaming for the Central Coast of California and neighboring communities. If you’re following along, you’ll notice that we have changed our name, and this is to reflect the fact that we are now officially a space not just for roleplaying meetups, but also tabletop miniatures, trading card games, cosplay, and anime! In fact, we have an upcoming cosplay event in February, more below.

Our Community Development

Our gaming community is exploding with activity. As it turns out, there are a lot of us looking for tables to play at, friends to play with, and events to attend. The Central Coast Gaming community is still in its infancy, and still experiencing growing pains and learning hard lessons. Though, we have successfully created a place for gamers to post “Looking For Group” messages on our discord, and finally have a lot of tangible in-person events to show for all of our spent efforts. This project has been in construction for 5 months now, and with MimicCon less than 2 months away we are expecting to see a large influx of new members over the next 9 weeks. Cosplay at World 1-1 Games’ Arcade February 18th

We are reviving the cosplay community with our first monthly meetup! Just like in-person gaming, the cosplay community here was exploding before COVID, and just like in-person gaming, there is a huge need for organizing post COVID. Central Coast Gaming is happy to announce that it is now a place for cosplay. We are currently renovating the discord server to reflect this, and we’ll be at World 1-1 Games’ Arcade in the Town Center Mall on February 18th from 2:30pm to 4:00pm hosting some arcade tournaments, taking photos, and answering questions at our very first Cosplay Meetup! All are welcome to join us, costume or not, come play some games, meet your fellow community members, and learn how to get involved!

MimicCon Game Convention April 2nd

We are proud to be presenting the first annual MimicCon for the central coast. It’s been coming together over the past few months, and will serve as a proof of concept for our partners, our sponsors, and the community as a whole, that we can provide a premier gaming convention in the Santa Maria Valley, and we intend to use this convention as a springboard for jumping into MimicCon 2024! We’ve been blessed to have such a great partnership with the City of Santa Maria, as they’ve granted us use of the Abel Maldonado Community Youth Center. And, to give back, we’ve committed to donate our proceeds to People for Leisure And Youth, an organization that helps fund the community center and other honorable projects in the Santa Maria Valley.

Warhammer: Underworlds February 19th

Sunday 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm at Gordon’s Good Games 5830 Traffic Way, Atascadero, CA 93422

This is a beginner friendly event (just bring an Underworlds warband and rivals deck) organized by the Central Coast Glory-Seekers, and has prize support provided by Gordon’s Good Games, including alt-art warband cards, rivals card decks, special Gnarlwood deck boxes.

PolyCon Winter Minicon February 25th

Friday 10:00 am - 10:00 pm Cal Poly BRAE (building 8)

Winter Minicon is a free event hosted by the PolyCon tabletop gaming club. For 12 hour. There will be tabletop gaming including trading card games, tabletop RPGs, and board games. This is a mini convention organized by the student club at Cal Poly. You don’t have to be a student or alumni, just show up. Parking is accessible from N. Perimeter Rd.

A Podcast: Tales from the Wildlands

Conan the Barbarian meets the Wild West in Legends of Calador: Tales from the Wildlands! Here, a group of adventurers set out into a dangerous frontier known only as the Scorcian Wilds. Some seek glory, others seek knowledge, and all will find adventure. But how many will live to tell their tale? In our premier season, we follow five strangers who have banded together, unaware of the ties that bind them. On their journey they will learn of the desolation of this land, what part the Ancients played in it, and whether the mistakes of the past can be avoided. All the while, a dormant evil watches. Falling somewhere between an actual-play D&D game and an audiobook, this biweekly West Marches campaign uses the 5th Edition of Dungeons & Dragons, set in the homebrewed world of Calador.
